Monte Landro

Description

Axel Cronauer and Leon Zwecker immediately recognised the unique micro-climate and special terroir of Monte Landro on Lake Bolsena. The volcanic soil of the old crater lake, the perfectly south-facing and slightly sloping mountainside, the harmonious effect of the large lake's climate and the drying, soothing Tramontana wind led to the idea of attempting a large, elegant Syrah and of creating  thereby an Italian "Hermitage".

In the spring of 2019, after 18 months of maturing in French oak barrels, the 2017 vintage was bottled -  the first official vintage from Monte Landro. The result is astonishing and inspiring: a full-bodied, rich and warm Syrah cuvée with the cool elegance and minerality of the unique terroir of Lake Bolsena.
